Business Continuity Planning (BCP) is a venture no company willingly addresses. Companies typically engage in BCP for one of three reasons. Either they have had a recent experience in which they found themselves unprepared. Second, they have been scared into addressing the issue by an effective advocate of BCP. Or thirdly, they have been directed to do so by a third party, whether it be governmental, by a board, or a large customer.

Companies either address BCP in-house, or employ an outside entity to write and test a plan for them. Unfortunately, the biggest mistake a company can make is to select a BC/DR development method that is not the right fit for the company. This is also the most common mistake because there is no BCP development tool or template written specifically for your company.
